NetworkedIndividualism

ThoughtStorms Wiki

Term coined by BarryWellman for our form of sociality,

Due to urban living (and now supported by communication technologies) we no longer associate with one comunity of people restricted by geography. We each have a network of friends and acquaintances who we have more or less intimate relationships with. (Often around 10 close friends but up to 1000 connections)

We each have this network, but we each have a personal, individual one. Some of my friends will be friends of each other, but others won't ...

It seems like work, family and other elective relationships are still strong with NetworkedIndividualism; whereas neighbour relationships become less strong. People seldom know the people they live around.
