I don't know what the answer is, but I do know we have to move beyond a simplistic dichotomy of "free speech vs censorship". There needs to be better, more subtle thinking about how to manage our memetic ecosystem so it isn't destroyed by the pollution of falsehood.
In retrospect we should have predicted that. In every economy we do at scale, the mass production of something leads to damaging pollution. How did we imagine we'd have an "information economy" without "information pollution" becoming an issue?
Disinformation is the waste product of an InformationEconomy, just as unwanted nitrates in the rivers are the result of an industrial agricultural economy.
