Thinking is a social process

Cognition is social and distributed. And it can lead to an illusion of knowledge within a community (FilterBubbles)

tl;dr :

Humans are evolved to think socially, not individually. We have limited cognitive capacity as individuals (estimates 1 gig of RAM).

But we do so well because we are hardwired to coordinate / understand and trust each other.

In fact, just being reassured that someone else seems to understand an issue reinforces our feeling that we understand it too.

We need to be aware of this. Most of our sense that we grok something is really 'contagion' from someone else seeming to grok it.

Of course, this is why FakeNews and lies damaging our MemeticEcosystem are so dangerous.
