Sometimes people want to publish ideas, or engage in a transaction without being identified. There are many legitimate reasons :

you want to express an idea without offending a friend, or to express unpopular views without having to face angry criticism.

Freedom to choose anonymity is a comfort for those embarking on something controversial or new.

In many circumstances we should choose to be identified rather than anonymous. But the choice should be ours.
