Very cool story about guerrilla gardeners, deciding to reclaim derelict lots in New York and turn them into gardens, commons spaces. Later they were forced to defend them when the council tried to enclose them.

Also reminds me of a quote from NicholasNegreponte, that window boxes of flowers were an example of the kind of example of people being willing to spend on something more useful for their neighbours than themselves. The model for general urban wifi coverage through people setting up lillypads of conectivity around their houses.
