My term for the network of connected smart devices.

The idea of the Device Swarm took hold in my mind when I realized that the explosion of interesting hardware innovation was symbiotic with (driven by?) the rise in wireless networking. In other words, the Desktop PC was exploding into a network of specialist devices (beginning with Palm Pilot, then the iPod, the WiiController, etc. etc.) enabled by a new network protocol.

The Device Swarm is therefore an example of BangTheRocksTogether / SystemEvolvingTowardsMoreSmallerSpecialistComponents ... where fragmentation and specialization are also driven by new networks.
