A poetical image : How marvelous to be a tree by the river

You are static but the flow of the world comes to you. You soak it up through your roots, process it and spray the water out like an invisible fountain.

Actually, in practice, out in Chapada near AltoParaiso and similar parts of the interior of Brazil, I see a lot of trees by rivers. Often the ones closest, the ones whose roots are in the water itself, tend to look the sickliest and sorriest. I'm not sure it's entirely healthy for many trees to be so close to the water. I still love the metaphor though.
