Zapatistas
Something is going on in Mexico.
The Zapatista movement have shut down all their councils, and are going underground. Meanwhile, the Mexican government is moving troops into the Zapatista controlled area.
What's up?
Who are the Zapatistas?
Basically they were an armed, largely indigenous group, calling for autonomy for their region of Mexico : Chaipas. They called for protection of their people and indigenous culture.
Almost immediately, "led" by their Subcommandante Marcos, they announced they'd give up violence as a strategy and concentrate on non-violent means. Essentially, this seems to have been a largely media based campaign designed to win the "moral" level of conflict with the Mexican government.
