A good example of a language for both technical and non-technical people is the unix shell.
For decades, folks who were surprised to find themselves touching a terminal ran simple commands on a daily basis to check their mail & such. You can learn new stuff as you need it.

First time I read this I wasn't convinced. But thinking again, I think the argument made here is good.
