There are two kinds of art :

• those which are pleasurable for the viewer / listener / audience

• those which are pleasurable for the artist, and therefore pleasurable to the kind of viewer / listener / audience that likes to imagine itself as the artist.

Perhaps this is the greatest divide among the arts : viewer-oriented vs. artists/aspirational-viewer oriented
