JakobNielsen thinks the Wysisyg GraphicalUserInterface has reached its limit.

His reasons :

• can't handle large numbers of commands

• too much manipulation required

• no guidance relative to goal

What comes next is "results oriented UI" which looks to me to be based on selecting a template of what you want. (And maybe using Wizards)

Also predicts other software will be forced to adopt similar strategy. Maybe some already doing so eg. pick the template for your weblog.

I agree that pre-canned tasks will be helpful. But awefully restricting. It's the TradeOff between simplicity and novelty.

This is MicroSoft. So I wonder if there's a connection with SoftwareFactories (which seem to be doing the same thing for software design)
