You can't specify tragedy (eg. September 11th, the US attack on Iraq). This pattern isn't a suggestion to builders.

But dramatic events will happen. And when they do, they have a significant effect on the shape the network. Dramatic events produce huge resonant discussions washing through it. They give people something to care about. And when people care, they both want to express themselves and know what others are thinking. People talk more in the wake of dramatic events.

The network will be shaped, some people will become authoritative, highly connected nodes. This structuration may last longer than the concern for the dramatic events which gave rise to it.
