Update: Ì just realized I already commented on this article on the page StateOfDigitalNature where I was more critical. Clearly these pages need merging.

This is a pretty good essay on SocialMediaStrife by KaseyKlimes

Basically captures the idea that we're in a runaway spiral of strife and TheEndOfConsensus because of the way social media works.
I have a slightly different take on CancelCulture, Kasey thinks it's all about the dopamine rewards of the gamification of tribalism on social media. Whereas I think it's more about the collapse of the distinction between public and private speech. (ConversationCommons) But these are not incompatible theories. Both can be happening at the same time.
His policy suggestions (to be imposed by government regulation if not adopted voluntarily) are
- "unplug the scoreboard" (remove gamification metrics) on social media
- let users design their own algorithms to prioritize and find content
- tackle the business exigencies for engagement
- rebuild off-line community so that people are less disconnected and less in need of validation from NetworkedTribes on social media.
