This story just gets wilder and wilder.

I hadn't been paying a lot of attention to the whole Jeffrey Epstein thing as it seemed more salacious than important. But it's starting to look increasingly like the ConspiracyTheory takes on it are right.

Now I'm not keen on conspiracy theories, but I'm interested, as I've said many times, because I think they may well become the main type of "knowledge" under NetoCracy. That's because Netocracy IS a theory that the world is made by individuals in networks rather than impersonal forces.

I tend to see Netocracy as NOT a GreatManTheory of history. Because I think it emphasizes NetworkTopology as the main causal factor, not the individuals. Nevertheless a theory of networked individuals does kind of give co-responsibility to the individuals in those positions. (More on NetocracyAndEpistemology)

So if we're rushing into Netocracy, and Netocracy pushes conspiracy as its major mode of knowledge. We should expect more and more public discourse and political organization to revolve around conspiracy.

Well, the Epstein scandal is sure as hell pushing everyone that way. It's providing us with a picture of an out-of-control

Some interesting points Jiang Xueqin makes here :

  • global elites are networked partly by mutual interest but ALSO blackmail connections against each other, that keep them in-line. This reminds me of TheArchDruid's argument about Satanic Sex Cults.
  • in any American city there's an Epstein-like character
    • why? three features of today's world
      • atomization or individualisation. Diminishes our capacity to work together eg. class interests
      • globalisation, end of national and community identity
      • bureaucratisation of society. Bureacracies are indifferent, and can't coordinate.

So how to get people to work together?

  • Secrecy
  • Trust
  • Coordination

The solution to all three problems is blackmail.
