Seems like a lot of what THE wants to do is good. But I also take the Emacs comparison point. Emacs is the ultimate extensible editor. I'm an extremely basic emacs user (after a couple of years). Nevertheless, I can see it is what you'd want.
If only it was a bit easier to get into scripting.
