IntentionalStance

DanielDennett suggests systems can afford one of three "stances" or approaches to understanding them :

• Physical stance ... understanding them through laws and cause and effect
• Design stance ... understanding them as having function or purpose
• Intentional stance ... understanding them through attributing intentional psychology / beliefs and desires to them.
