HotballingHoneybees

ThoughtStorms Wiki

Context: Insects

Fascinating how honeybees surround predatory wasps in a ball, which they heat (with their own body temperature) until it kills the wasp.

Bees will also prefer sources of food which are of the right temperature. (Eg. flowers produce a bit of warmth which also attracts them, but experiments with hotter surfaces repel them unless this source of food also has much higher sugar / energy content. Ie. they'll put up with the discomfort of heat for a bigger reward.
