The power companies are meant to allow individuals with their own power generation facility to sell that power to the grid. Unfortunately many are too concerned with supporting existing power generation facilities and ban people trying to do this.
The Guerrilla Solar movement are individuals with solar power generating facility who connect to the grid and donate spare power secretly, simply to have more green power available on the network.
