TheArchDruid calls 3rd generation or blitzkrieg type war "Gasoline Warfare", dependent on the mobility that petroleum provides.

He points out that because 3rd Gen war is focussed on speedily taking out the head or government of the opposition in the war, it often leaves many of those loyal to the losing side untested in actual battle, and so it's more likely to leave resistance movements / insurgencies in its wake.
