FakeNews and Disinformation are a disaster.

My suggested strategy : MicroPenaltiesForMicroInfractions

MikeCaulfield does some good thinking about it.

The problem is, while the loss of gatekeepers and authority is the cause of TheEndOfConsensus and a dangerous proliferation of falsity, not everyone who sets themselves up as the arbitrator can be trusted. Eg. NewsGuard

But then what FactChecking sites can / should we trust? Can we even trust the concept of fact-checking sites?

GlennGreenwald (see MediaInTheAgeOfFakeNews) pretty much seems to imply that it's individual journalists who can and should set themselves up as the truth-tellers. And then we must choose those we trust. Which is 100% de-facto how it works. But all we have to go on is intuitions. And while I trust my own intuitions, I would be a fool to call them infallible or not feel that I could do with some help. (If only that help were, itself, trustworthy)

JimmyWales's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiTribune was an attempt at a FactChecking site. Didn't work out.
