Context : AntiAmericanism
If you're from a country outside the US, how does it look to you?
- Powerful : what America wants it usually gets
- Rich : US companies always seem to have the money to buy our resources, our companies? Americans always seem to have money to buy our stuff, our women, etc.
- Capricious : it's hard to see the internal dynamics by which the US makes it's decisions. Unless you're watching closely, its foreign policies seem to come out of no-where.
- Jealous : America defends its interests vigorously, and this includes smacking down any upstart power-base. National leaders (elected or otherwise) who criticise or go against the US foreign policy are spun against, threatened, undermined. International treaties that try to restrict it are broken, emerging anti-US coalitions are bought-off. There is no space to be free from US influence in the world today.
Is it any wonder then, that AntiAmericanism takes on a superstitious colour? That the US is blamed for things that aren't its fault?
