AgainstPhysicalism

Seems to me that any indexical fact doesn't have physical cause.

Why is it now, rather than then?

Why is it here, rather than there?

Why is it me, rather than you?

None of these facts have physical explanations. Because we can imagine that there is someone for who the opposite is true, even though we share the same physical universe.

(See Indexicals)

Isn't this a kind of SymmetryBreaking without physical cause.

The counter-argument is to argue that it isn't either / or, but both / and.

In other words both now and then obtain. Both here and there. No symmetry is broken: the experience of you at your time and space subjectivity is just the result of the physical configuration at the locus. But it happens everywhere.

And it doesn't make sense to ask "why do I have this subjectivity? these indexical coordinates?" because there is no extra I whose attachment to them is contingent. Or whose attachment to them needs explaining.

There is the I of those coordinates, and the I of the next coordinates etc. All obtaining simultaneously.

And yet I'm not sure I buy it. There IS a subjectivity. And an indexicality in my world. The only one I know. I can't pretend it doesn't exist. My view is from somewhere. At some coordinates. And that needs explanation which the physical world can't provide.
