Cigarros are a kind of insect which appear in millions in the trees here at the beginning of the raining season here. They make a kind of high pitched buzzing, whistle in possibly the same kind of spontaneous synchronization that fire-flies can be seen to do.

Interesting the sound bifurcates into two pitches, and seems they all (within a region such as a local clump of trees) suddenly switch from one to the other. Maybe it gets more complex and this is emergent from simple copying of others?

  • Wonder if there's an interesting composition technique here?
  • Does the architecture and layout of Brasilia have any influence here? For example, the fact that it's divided into superquadras with regular clumps of trees? Does this affect the granularity of the spatial modules creating music? (Compare TheCityAsInformationSystem)
